Feed-In Tariff

Feed-In Tariff

The government will be implementing a feed-in tariff in April 2010 that will pay for the electricity generated and exported by a photovoltaic system. The credit given for the electricity will be guaranteed at the same rate for 25 years. No matter what type of building you own, installing a photovoltaic system on it will make you money.

The current proposed generation credit levels are as follows:

Scale (kWp) Proposed Initial Tariff (p/kWh)
< 4 KWp new build £0.310
< 4 KWp retrofit £0.365
4 -10 KWp £0.310
10 -100 KWp £0.280
100 – 5000 KWp £0.260
Stand Alone £0.260
Scale (kWp) Proposed Initial Tariff (p/kWh)
< 4 KWp new build £0.310
< 4 KWp retrofit £0.365
4 -10 KWp £0.310
10 -100 KWp £0.280
100 – 5000 KWp £0.260
Stand Alone £0.260

It is also proposed that existing microgenerators which have already received a government grant will only be eligible for 9 p/kWh for generation, however any domestic retrofit installation carried out in the ’interim period’ between now and next April will be eligible for both the grant and tariff. A 5 p/kWh credit has also been proposed for any electricity exported. For more details on the above credit please see the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s Consultation on Renewable Electricity Financial Incentives 2009.
